Celebrate the New Year with a joyful spectacle featuring celebrated singers, dazzlingly costumed dancers, and a full symphony orchestra. The exuberant music of Johann Strauss and his contemporaries springs to vibrant life with selections from beloved operettas, elegant dances, lively overtures, and the beautiful Blue Danube Waltz. Salute to Vienna recreates the beloved Neujahrskonzert, hosted each year in Vienna’s legendary Musikverein.

For almost 20 years, Svetlana Dvoretsky and her full-service production company Show One Productions have presented some of the world’s greatest symphony orchestras, ballet companies and dance and theatre productions across Canada. The company has been responsible for such unforgettable collaborations as the premiere of the theatrical Brodsky/Baryshnikov, marking the Toronto return of the legendary dancer; and the exclusive, once-in-a-lifetime performance of Dmitri Hvorostovsky with Anna Netrebko and Yusif Eyvazov at the Four Seasons Centre in 2017.

Svetlana Dvoretsky is also a founder/producer of the innovative entertainment company Lighthouse Immersive Inc., which since 2020 has created Immersive Van Gogh, and other immersive experiences, featuring the likes of Klimt, Frida Kahlo and King Tut, which have been hugely successful not only in Toronto but also in other major centres across Canada and the U.S.

This fall, after having presented his sold out, enthusiastically received Koerner Hall solo debut in 2020, Show One - in conjunction with Cherry Orchard Festival - is proud to bring back pianist Lucas Debargue, one of the most original soloists on today’s concert stage, on October 29. SINE NOMINE was formed in 1991 to research and perform music from before 1500, and has given concerts in Canada, the United States, and the UK. The members have varied backgrounds in vocal and instrumental performance (wind instruments, fiddles, lutes, and percussion), musicology, and medieval history, language, literature, liturgy, theatre, and manuscript studies. In preparing repertoire, we draw on all these specialties, and work with improvisation and ornamentation, medieval pronunciations and tuning systems, hoping to create performances which speak to modern audiences (and would not have been wholly foreign to medieval listeners!) We blend vocal and instrumental music from medieval courts and churches with readings, and occasionally drama or liturgical action, to provide insight into the fascinating artistic and intellectual culture of the Middle Ages. SINE NOMINE is currently working on a project to present the diverse repertoire of a remarkable 14th-century northern Italian manuscript through both music and dance. SoundCrowd, Toronto’s first large-scale contemporary a cappella ensemble, is the brainchild of Artistic Director, Scott Pietrangelo. The group made its concert debut in 2016 alongside former Barenaked Ladies front-man Steven Page at the Danforth Music Hall. Since then, it has been featured on a national TV show (The Social), created viral music videos, performed with other notable Toronto-based groups (Cadence, Countermeasure, Retrocity), sang backup for Jonathan Antoine (Britain's Got Talent), opened for Disney's a cappella sensation DCappella, and performed at Carnegie Hall with choirs from around the world under the direction of Deke Sharon (Pitch Perfect, The Sing Off). After surviving the lockdowns of the pandemic, SoundCrowd is back working on two new shows and releasing its long-awaited debut album, All Voice No Limits, in 2023. SoundCrowd's vision is to:

• Enrich the Toronto community with the proven health and social benefits of participating in and experiencing choral music
• Make connections through voice and movement using repertoire that is exciting, fun and meaningful to all
• Create dynamic and original performances of music from all genres using the musical language of a cappella

Our 40th anniversary season is filled with concerts, compelling stagings and world premieres, all of which will reflect and pay homage to our distinguished past, while pointing the way forward for new Canadian music. For over 40 years, Soundstreams has commissioned and championed the music of the most gifted Canadian and international composers, taking work across the country and around the world, making Soundstreams one of the most influential Canadian cultural producers in operation today.

The 2022/23 season is presented with over 100 artists, both local and international, and in partnership with local companies including Tapestry Opera, Fall for Dance North, TO Live and Crow’s Theatre. Main Stage productions include “Choral Splendour: Music of Arvo Pärt and Paul Frehner”, the film Zipangu, from Michael Greyeyes, Surface Tension by Donnacha Dennehy, Electric Messiah, Steve Reich: Now & Then, and a new Canadian opera, Dragon’s Tale, from Chan Ka Nin and Mark Brownell.

SOLO formed in April 2015 and performed its first concerts in Burlington and Hamilton in September 2015 – the latter in celebration of Festitalia’s 40th Anniversary. The concerts were met with enthusiasm and excitement and spoke of a need for opera in the community.

The 2016/17 season marked our first season of main productions which included La Traviata and Tosca performed at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre. We have performed at least two mainstage productions a year ever since. Interest has grown as witnessed by an increase in ticket sales from one production to the next.

We have further performed many fundraising concerts at local churches thereby increasing our fanbase, and increasing their appreciation of this valuable art from. To help develop this appreciation, apart from mainstage performances, we offer education programs for the public in the form of interactive lectures and informal talks through the main public library in Burlington, at Retirement Homes, and also prior to our mainstage performances at the Burlington Performing arts Centre.

We are also keenly interested in educating the youth in the community about opera and will work with local schools to let them experience this valuable art form, live.

Since 1937, St. Michael’s Choir School has served the Archdiocese of Toronto by educating and training the boys’ choirs that sing every weekend at St. Michael’s Cathedral. Founded by Monsignor J.E. Ronan, St. Michael’s Choir School is unique in offering both an enriched academic program, including extended French instruction, integrated with a lively ministry of sacred music. Choirs from St. Michael’s Choir School perform annually on tour and at many local concerts and events. During the school year, they sing three weekly Masses at St. Michael’s Cathedral. School alumni are active in Toronto and beyond, performing in choral groups, operas and more. St. Michael’s Choir School accepts boys grades 3 to 12. Located in the heart of Bloor West Village with a generous acoustic and beautiful sanctuary, St. Olave’s Anglican Church offers a music program strongly rooted in the Anglican tradition, incorporating music spanning across the centuries. Under the direction of Dr. Hanné Becker, St. Olave’s choir leads congregational singing at 10:30am Sunday services, as well as performs anthems and service music for the liturgy. Rehearsals take place on Thursdays from 7:30pm to 9pm and before the Sunday services at 9:30am. New volunteer members are welcome, and the ability to sight-read music is helpful. St. Thomas’s music program elevates our worship, freely offering the gift of music to anyone coming through our doors (physically, or virtually via livestream). Music creates community and meaningful connection as we attract skilled choristers and other musicians, feature guest artists from our parish and beyond, and welcome all who come to hear them. Under the leadership of Interim Director of Music Elizabeth Anderson, choral and organ music are offered at the 9:30am Sung Mass, at the 11am High Mass, and at Evensong and Devotions at 5pm Evensong, a service of prayers and music, features the great heritage of Anglican sacred music as sung in British cathedrals. We welcome experienced choristers who value a high standard of ensemble singing to audition by contacting eanderson@stthomas.on.ca.

In the coming months, our plan is to develop a children’s music program based on the Royal School of Church Music model to deliver music education, provide exposure to the Anglican church music tradition, and draw young people and their families to St. Thomas’s. A series of lecture-recitals is being planned for 2023. Our traditional Baroque Music by Candlelight is offered each year during Holy Week.

Currently in their 15th season, That Choir is one of Toronto’s most exciting a cappella ensembles, combining high-calibre performance with storytelling through choral music. Founded in 2008 by artistic director Craig Pike, That Choir now draws together close to 20 professional singers with diverse backgrounds in culture, work and study. Each season, That Choir presents a self-presented concert series of contemporary choral works, along with their own series of cabarets throughout the year. An auditioned concert choir, Toronto Beach Chorale attracts singers who are highly motivated with excellent musical skills. In addition to our concert season, we actively participate in community events, collaborating with other groups and artists to enhance the quality of life in our neighbourhood. Toronto Beach Chorale is a vital musical presence in the Beach, and has achieved a reputation for artistic excellence.

We are supported by professional orchestras and ensembles, and we engage professional and emerging soloists in principal solo roles.

Our Artistic Director, Mervin William Fick, has been transforming choirs, inspiring individuals and raising performance levels of community, church and professional choirs for over 35 years. He is the founding director of the Toronto Beach Chorale, the Artistic Director of the MCS Chorus of Mississauga, and conductor of the PCS Singers of Brampton and the National Award winning Esprit Chamber Choir. One of the greatest gifts that Mervin brings to performances through the singers under his direction is his ability to inspire truly joyful singing.

The Toronto Chamber Choir has held a prominent place in Canada’s early music scene since 1968. Since 2014, the TCC’s Artistic Director is lutenist Lucas Harris. Past directors have included David Fallis and Mark Vuorinen.

The TCC’s 30 to 40 auditioned singers specialize in performing Renaissance and Baroque repertoire in collaboration with period instrumentalists, though the choir’s themed concerts often include music from other time periods and diverse cultures. Our performances often explore the cultural context of our repertoire using narration and a multimedia component. Since 2014, we’ve run the Toronto Chamber Consort section lead program for professional singers with a special interest in early music, and since 2003, we’ve run an apprenticeship program with Rosedale Heights School for the Arts.

Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings at Church of the Transfiguration (Mt. Pleasant/Davisville), with appropriate COVID protocols adjusted by our Health & Safety Committee. The TCC is committed to inclusion and diversity of perspectives within the choir. We welcome audition requests from singers with excellent choral skills at any time through arrangement with the Artistic Director.

Entering its 45th season, the Toronto Children’s Chorus is recognized worldwide as a leading choral organization for children and youth. We are committed to offering exceptional, inclusive choral music education, while cultivating collaboration, leadership, self-discipline, and commitment to excellence. We have four distinct programs: KinderNotes, Training Choirs, Main Choir and Toronto Youth Choir. We are excited to welcome internationally acclaimed conductor, Zimfira Poloz, as our new artistic director.

Our season runs from September to June. Rehearsals are held on weekday afternoons and evenings. Choristers enjoy exceptional performance opportunities, and our Main and Youth Choir collaborate with esteemed arts organizations like the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. The Chamber Choir performs nationally and internationally, most recently at choral festivals in New Zealand and Australia.

The Toronto Youth Choir is entering its 10th season, offering a space for innovation, inclusion and musical excellence for youth and young working professionals. TYC has performed with The King's Singers, Irish Youth Choir, the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. They are a founding member of the Bridge Coral Collective.

Toronto Classical Singers is the only choir in the country dedicated exclusively to the great choral/orchestral repertoire. Known for its unique musical point-of-view and its diverse and high-quality programming, the choir features lesser-known and rarely performed pieces as well as the beloved vocal/orchestral repertoire. Led by founding conductor and artistic director Jurgen Petrenko, the group performs with orchestra and soloists in their presentations of the great choral masterpieces. With its exuberant approach, the group celebrates the choral tradition with the complex sonority of large choir with professional orchestra.

This season we are resuming our concert schedule in celebration of our 30 years contributing to the fabric of musical life in Toronto. On December 11 at 4pm, we will be presenting Bach’s Christmas Oratorio with soloists and orchestra. Our 30th anniversary concert will be on April 23 at 4pm, featuring celebratory music by Handel.

Toronto Operetta Theatre is in its third decade as Canada’s only performing arts company dedicated to music theatre in all its variety.

TOT will return to the St. Lawrence Centre stage with a new season of musical entertainment from the wide world of Operetta and Music Theatre. The 2022/23 season opens with Orpheus in the Underworld, Offenbach’s riotous view of the hijinks in Hades, performing at the Jane Mallett Theatre on October 21 to 23, 2022 starring Vania Chan, Tonatiuh Abrego and Gregory Finney, with Larry Beckwith conducting the orchestra, followed by Johann Strauss’s Die Fledermaus for the holiday season. Ever fabulous send-up of middle-class Viennese pretensions, Die Fledermaus performances are on December 28 to 31, 2022. The Zarzuela of Spain takes centre stage on May 5 to 7, 2023 with the Canadian premiere of Thomas Breton’s La Verbena de la Paloma - the Festival of the Dove. All main performances are held at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts with safety protocols in place.

Trio Arkel, originally founded in 2008, is composed of Marie Berard, violinist, Rémi Pelletier, violist, and Winona Zelenka, cellist, who have been sharing their artistry and imagination through the fashioning of a chamber music series that has since garnered an enthusiastic following in their hometown of Toronto. They collaborate with guest artists of international renown to present great masterpieces of the classical chamber music repertoire, from Bach to present-day living composers, in beautiful, eclectic and fascinating programs that transport and move audiences.

To quote the Trio: "Engaging our community at large with thoughtful, provocative, and educational concert series is incredibly rewarding and inspirational. Trio Arkel's commitment is to connect with a wide variety of audiences, including our important work and outreach to young audiences, contributing to the growth of music and the vibrancy of our communities in the future."

The Upper Canada Choristers is an SATB community choir in Toronto with a history of collaboration with choirs and professional guest artists. UCC is committed to excellence and diversity. Cantemos is UCC’s auditioned Latin-American ensemble. Founding artistic director Laurie Evan Fraser, and accompanist Hye Won Cecilia Lee, provide the professional musical leadership for this vibrant organization.

Despite the challenges we face in these uncertain times, the choir continues to meet and rehearse regularly in person and on Zoom, following protocols as advised by Public Health.

Our 2021/22 concert season opens with To Sit and Dream - Voices of Women, devoted to choral works written by women through the ages, including Ontario’s Sarah Quartel. The concert will be live-streamed from Grace Church on-the-Hill on October 1. On December 3, the choir will perform From Darkness Into Light featuring Chanukah, Kwanzaa, Christmas, and non-seasonal music with themes of light. Our spring concert on May 13, “The French Connection”, features the Faure Requiem with baritone soloist Bradley Christensen.

Vesnivka Choir is an award-winning women’s ensemble established in 1965 by founding artistic director Halyna Kvitka Kondracki. The choir has delighted audiences with its rich repertoire of Ukrainian classical, sacred and traditional folk music. Vesnivka, together with its partner the Toronto Ukrainian Male Chamber Choir, are often joined by local professional musicians and soloists. We are excited to return to a regular in-person concert season and look forward to bringing these performances to our audience. The first concert, on November 13, 2022, is a musical tribute to Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych, known for his famous piece Shchedryk (Carol of the Bells). On January 22, 2023, we will be joined by guest performers - the Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus of North America - for our annual Christmas concert and together we’ll present a program of Ukrainian Christmas music to the accompaniment of Ukraine’s national instrument – the bandura. The third concert, “Spring Awakenings” on April 30, 2023, will feature the light romantic and dance music of 20th century Ukrainian-Canadian composer Ivan Bohdan Vesolowskyj, presented as a late afternoon social.

VIVA Singers Toronto is a not-for-profit family of seven choirs, for singers ages four through adult, committed to the belief that Every Voice Matters! VIVA offers exceptional programming by "doing choir differently", embracing choral music artistry through chorister creation, innovative vocal programming, inclusive practices, and developing strong community connections.

Unique to VIVA are a renowned and inspiring Inclusion Program for teens and adults with disabilities, and a Choral Leadership and Mentoring Program. VIVA is proud to be the Associate Choir of the Elmer Iseler Singers, and The National Ballet of Canada's official children's choir.

Membership in VIVA includes regular performances; creation-based curriculum; music literacy education; youth Performing Arts Camp; commissions and partnerships with distinguished composers, musicians, and organisations; and international touring opportunities.

We continue to advocate for all voices, and push for inclusivity to ensure that anyone who enjoys music is welcomed - and challenged - at VIVA.

The VOCA Chorus of Toronto, a dynamic, auditioned ensemble under the artistic direction of Jenny Crober, performs a broad range of repertoire in collaboration with a variety of superb guest artists. VOCA's seasons consist of concerts, cabaret fundraisers, community performances and workshops. Our talented, versatile accompanist is Elizabeth Acker. Some of VOCA's remarkable clinicians have included composer Ola Gjeilo, conductor Ivars Taurins and jazz musician Dylan Bell.

Our 2022/23 season will return with in-person sessions (and updated COVID protocols). VOCA's professional leads will be featured in a cabaret fundraiser on October 16. Our "Winter's Eve" concert on December 17, with Sybil Shanahan, cello and Daniel Morphy, percussion, will present works by Sarah Quartel, Astor Piazzolla, Ola Gjeilo and others. VOCA's annual Cabaret/Silent Auction will return on March 4, 2023. We will perform two concerts celebrating the night sky with Shawn Grenke, organ, Colleen Allen, sax, and Jamie Drake, percussion, featuring works by Andrew Balfour, Morten Lauridsen, Nicholas Ryan Kelly and others - first on April 28 at our Roy Thomson Hall debut, then on April 29 at Eastminster. Rehearsals are Monday nights at Eastminster (Chester subway).

VOICEBOX: Opera in Concert is Canada’s only company dedicated exclusively to the presentation of rare opera programming. Our performances rely on the power and beauty of the human voice, the dramatic inflection of text and poetry accompanied by orchestra or piano.

This tradition continues in the coming season with astonishing works by the very young Mozart, Luigi Cherubini, and Joseph Bologne.

The season opens at the St. Lawrence Centre on Sunday, November 20, 2022, with Lucio Silla by the 17-year-old Salzburg prodigy already renowned for his keyboard wizardry. Suzy Smith - Music Director and pianist - leads a cast including debuting tenor Owen McCausland in the title role, as well as Vania Chan, Amy Moodie and Holly Chaplin. Cherubini’s Médée follows on Sunday, February 19, 2023, led by Narmina Afandiyeva as Music Director and pianist. The season concludes on March 19, 2023, with the Toronto premiere of L’Amant Anonyme composed by Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, known as the Black Mozart. This special event will be led by Stephen Hargreaves, conducting his own realization of Bologne’s remarkably sophisticated score. All three performances will be with OIC Chorus led by Chorus Director Robert Cooper.

Westben is where music and nature spring to life! Nestled amongst the hills of Northumberland County, two hours east of Toronto, 40 minutes from Peterborough, Cobourg and Belleville, near Campbellford, Westben presents a myriad of concerts and outdoor experiences in and around its three venues. The custom-built, timber-frame barn seats 400 with doors that roll open onto a lush meadow. Willow Hill amphitheatre offers the outdoor festival experience and the cosy campfire venue offers performers and audiences a chance to share songs and stories with smores and a sunset. Imagine sunshine and smiles while listening to everything from Bach to Broadway, jazz, folk, pop, comedy including music by our neighbours from Alderville First Nation and the Performer-Composer Residency. Westben will open its 24th Season of Concerts on July 1st, 2023. The month-long festival will feature over 70 artists in 26 concerts. But Westben is more than just great performances, it is a true music in nature experience. Gourmet picnics on the meadow, curated wine and beer selections from the Milkshed, pre-concert chats, guided nature walks with live music on a neighbouring Nature Reserve and a chance to relax by the pond, all make Westben the place to be.

The Wychwood Clarinet Choir brings together the family of clarinets from E flat sopranino down to contrabass. Our range of instruments is matched by the variety of our repertoire. The choir, now in its 14th season, was founded and directed by conductor and clarinetist Michele Jacot. We perform new compositions and arrangements, many written or transcribed by our Composers’ Collective. Choir members are admitted by audition and pay an annual membership fee.

Choir members are dedicated clarinetists eager to share their love of playing music in a collegial and musically challenging environment. We strive to create opportunities for serious amateur musicians to develop their musical skills and we strive to share our music more broadly in educational settings and in the wider community. The Upper Canada Choristers is an SATB community choir in Toronto with a history of collaboration with choirs and professional guest artists. UCC is committed to excellence and diversity. Cantemos is UCC’s auditioned Latin-American ensemble. Founding artistic director Laurie Evan Fraser, and accompanist Hye Won Cecilia Lee, provide the professional musical leadership for this vibrant organization.

Despite the challenges we face in these uncertain times, the choir continues to meet and rehearse regularly in person and on Zoom, following protocols as advised by Public Health.

Our 2021/22 concert season opens with To Sit and Dream - Voices of Women, devoted to choral works written by women through the ages, including Ontario’s Sarah Quartel. The concert will be live-streamed from Grace Church on-the-Hill on October 1. On December 3, the choir will perform From Darkness Into Light featuring Chanukah, Kwanzaa, Christmas, and non-seasonal music with themes of light. Our spring concert on May 13, “The French Connection”, features the Faure Requiem with baritone soloist Bradley Christensen.

The senior choir, under organist and music director William Maddox, enjoys a reputation as one of the best congregational choirs in the city of Toronto.

Yorkminster Park presents a series of free organ recitals at 12:30pm, every Wednesday from September through June, with performers from around the world.

We have a wide variety of unique musical events throughout the year but Yorkminster Park is renowned for its special seasonal concerts. The quality and dedication of the music ministry at YPBC is never more evident than during Advent and Holy Week and these services have become community traditions: City Carol Sing, Carols by Candlelight, Iona liturgical music, the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, Passiontide Devotion during Holy Week and traditional Evensong services three times a year.

Our sanctuary is frequently made available to other choral and concert groups, which draw appreciative audiences from all over Southern Ontario.

The Amadeus Choir of Greater Toronto is celebrating 50 years of enlivening the Toronto arts landscape through energetic performances, unexpected programming and artistic collaborations that redefine the boundaries of traditional choral music. The Annex Singers of Toronto, now in its 44th season, is a spirited, auditioned choir with an eclectic repertoire spanning seven centuries. Under the dynamic and creative leadership of Artistic Director Maria Case, the choir performs three concerts annually, collaborating with an array of professional soloists and ensembles. Recent large-scale works include Poulenc’s Gloria, Dobrogosz’s Jazz Mass, Mozart’s Great Mass in C Minor, and the acclaimed original choral drama December Diaries. The Annex Chamber Choir, an ensemble drawn from the main choir, is dedicated to presenting gems from the chamber repertoire. We provide ongoing professional development to choir members, engage in community outreach, and encourage young singers with a sponsorship program.

Established in 2014, The Azrieli Music Prizes (AMP) offer opportunities for the discovery, creation, performance and celebration of excellence in music composition. Every two years, AMP offers four prizes: two celebrating the discovery and creation of excellent new Jewish Music; one for the creation of Canadian music; and the fourth that focuses on new works inspired by humanity’s diverse cultural heritage.

AMP is open to composers of all ages, genders, faiths and backgrounds. Full eligibility and submission guidelines are available on the AMP website. AMP also seeks to engage more composers and enrich the concert repertoire through its instrumentation cycle – 2024: Choral Music; 2026: Oratorio/Opera in Concert; and 2028: Chamber Music.

All Prize Laureates receive a prize package valued at $200,000 CAD, including a $50,000 cash award, a premiere in Montréal at the AMP Gala Concert, two subsequent international showcase concerts, and a professional recording for future commercial release. This makes AMP the largest competition of its kind in Canada and one of the most important in the world.
