Beaches International Jazz FestivalThe Beaches International Jazz Festival, now in its 35th year, is a month-long music festival held each year in the lakeside Beaches community of Toronto in July. It’s now one of Canada’s largest free jazz festivals with nearly 1,000,000 attendees, throughout its month-long span.

The Festival takes place across a number of venues; stage concerts are held in several different parks within the area and also along a two kilometre stretch of the Beach mainstreet during StreetFest - Queen Street East.

The 36-year-old Brott Music Festival was founded in 1987 by Boris Brott and is one of our anchor arts organizations in Hamilton, ON and is the largest orchestral music festival in Canada.

Ashkenaz FestivalAshkenaz is one of the largest and most prestigious showcases of Jewish music and culture in the world. Originally founded as a showcase for Klezmer/Yiddish music and culture, the Festival has evolved over the years into an eclectic showcase of global Jewish culture, encompassing not merely the traditions of Eastern Europe, but also Sephardic, Mizrachi, and other underrepresented Jewish identities, and all manner of cross-cultural fusion. The Festival is offered 90% free to the public and attracts a multicultural audience of over 60,000 people. Welcome to The WholeNote’s 13th annual Green Pages, an overview of summer festivals and events across the musical map – classical, jazz, opera, folk, world music and much more – in unique and beautiful locations across the country!

The summer of Canada’s sesquicentennial brings with it a diverse range of musical opportunities to choose from. Here you will find brief profiles of 47 distinct summer festivals and/or concert series, provided by the presenters themselves. These listings are published in the special summer listings section of our June 2017 issue, while our online version of this guide lives here, at www.thewholenote.com/green. Festival profiles have been supplemented with photos, videos, links to social media and more, and information will be updated on an ongoing basis.
