The (Toronto) North Star Festival is an invitation to consider, challenge and celebrate our individual and collective ideas and experience of freedom through critical discourse and the arts. The inaugural offering of the festival is presented by the Nathaniel Dett Chorale in association with the Yale Alumni Chorus and the Harriet Tubman Institute for Research on Africa and its Diasporas in celebration of the 150th Anniversary of Canadian Confederation. The theme of the festival is an Interrogation of the North Star and the legacy of the Underground Railroad through scholarly papers, choral music and dance. Venues include York University, Black Creek Pioneer Village and the Royal Conservatory of Music, with a Gala Celebration Concert at Koerner Hall on August 13.
