Our tenth anniversary season begins as usual in the intimate and acoustically beautiful historic Leith Church. Works by Schulhoff, Haydn, Ryan and Dvořák will be performed by Annalee Patipatanakoon, Roman Borys, Philip and David Ying, Denise Djokic and Edwin Huizinga. On Saturday in the nearby scenic town of Owen Sound on Georgian Bay, a jazz concert showcasing the works of Reinhardt and Grappelli will be performed at the Tom Thomson Gallery by the Van Django quartet. Also, in the gallery, the festival will host an interactive exhibit by local and international luthiers. The Saturday evening main stage event is a performance of all the Brandenburg concerti. Sunday’s concert includes work by Bach, Mozart and Haydn, with performances by James Campbell and Mark Fewer.

The 63rd Canadian Open Old Time Fiddle Championship takes place August 7 to 11 in Shelburne, Ontario. Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Shelburne, the event features Canada’s top fiddlers in competition for more than $17,000 in prizes! Community events in conjunction with the Canadian Open Old Time Fiddle Championship include camping, a giant fiddle parade, an open air market, Saturday afternoon fiddle and step-dance show, fiddle jam sessions, a concert by Everything Fitz with special guests Nate Douglas and Emily Flack, a beer garden, Battle of the Bands, a non-denominational church service, 24 hour meals and entertainment at the Legion, and community pork BBQ. Spadina Museum’s Music in the Orchard features the eight-piece ensemble VeneElation on June 9 and the Taffanel Wind Ensemble on June 16. At Colborne Lodge, dance to Regency fiddle music on June 15 or march to fife and drum during Fort York’s exciting War of 1812 Festival Weekend. From June 20 to 22, Fort York hosts the Indigenous Arts Festival, where visitors will thrill to a rich roster of new and traditional music, dance and theatrical performances. Enjoy Bollywood-style dancing at Scarborough Museum’s “Canada Rocks!” on June 27. Montgomery’s Inn continues to host the Solfeggio Music Series and on June 29, soprano Felicia Mittica is featured.
