The Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts (the Isabel) is a home for the creative arts at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario and a hub of vibrant artistic study, creation, and exhibition in our community. The building houses the Queen’s Department of Film and Media and the DAN School of Drama and Music, as well as the Isabel house season, which brings some of the most exciting and acclaimed musicians to its 567-seat concert hall. Situated on the shores of Lake Ontario, the Isabel brings together world-class arts spaces and programs with a captivating sense of place, creating a dynamic venue for our students and community to learn, discover, think, do, and experience together.

Opened in September 2014, the Isabel was designed by Oslo/New York-based firm Snøhetta and Ottawa’s N45, with acoustics and theatre design by ARUP and Theatre Projects Consultants. Anchored by a transformational gift to the Initiative Campaign from Drs. Alfred and Isabel Bader, the Isabel was inspired by the Baders’ love - of the arts, of Queen’s, and of each other - and is named in Isabel’s honour.

SINE NOMINE was formed in 1991 to research and perform music from before 1500, and has given concerts in Canada, the United States, and the UK. The members have varied backgrounds in vocal and instrumental performance (wind instruments, fiddles, lutes, and percussion), musicology, and medieval history, language, literature, liturgy, theatre, and manuscript studies. In preparing repertoire, we draw on all these specialties, and work with improvisation and ornamentation, medieval pronunciations and tuning systems, hoping to create performances which speak to modern audiences (and would not have been wholly foreign to medieval listeners!) We blend vocal and instrumental music from medieval courts and churches with readings, and occasionally drama or liturgical action, to provide insight into the fascinating artistic and intellectual culture of the Middle Ages. SINE NOMINE is currently working on projects to present the monophonic songs of famous 14th-century French and Italian composers, and the diverse vocal and instrumental repertoire of a remarkable 14th-century northern Italian manuscript, including guest dancers. "An act or process of merging" - Confluence produces joyous, daring and thought-provoking concerts in a warm atmosphere of intimacy and discovery. Artistic Associates Larry Beckwith, Andrew Downing, Teiya Kasahara, Patricia O'Callaghan, and Suba Sankaran curate a variety of lively programs. 2023/24 shows include new and traditional Irish music curated and performed by Patricia O’Callaghan and friends; the premiere of new settings of Canadian poetry by Toronto composer James Rolfe; the 20th-anniversary celebration of Autorickshaw’s unique Indo-Fusion music; a special performance by our 2023/24 Young Artistic Associates, KöNG Duo, reflecting on memories of their native Hong Kong; a queer re-imagining of Schumann’s romantic song cycle, Dichterliebe, by singer Teiya Kasahara and pianist David Eliakis; Andrew Downing’s show featuring hidden gems by Toronto-area singer-songwriters; and a season-ending program of favourites from the whole team. The DaCapo Chamber Choir was founded in 1998 in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario under the direction of Leonard Enns. In November 2023, the choir celebrates 25 years of “giving ideas voice.” The mission of the choir is to promote the best of contemporary choral music through public performance and recordings, including the intentional championing of music of Canadian and local composers. The choir’s national NewWorks choral competition, which held its final season last year, was critical in establishing a vibrant and vital presence for recent and emerging Canadian choral music. DaCapo will continue to profile and support Canadian composers through premieres and commissioning.

The choir has released three CDs: NewWorks (2019); the award-winning ShadowLand (winner of the 2010 ACCC’s National Choral Recording of the Year award, including the Juno-nominated Nocturne by Leonard Enns); and Still (2004).

Westben is where music and nature spring to life! Nestled amongst the hills of Northumberland County, 2 hours east of Toronto, 40 minutes from Peterborough and Cobourg near Campbellford, Westben presents concerts and outdoor experiences in and around its three venues. The custom-built, timber-frame barn seats 400 with doors that roll open onto a lush meadow. Willow Hill amphitheatre offers the outdoor festival experience, and the cosy campfire venue offers performers and audiences a chance to share songs and stories with smores and a sunset. Imagine sunshine and smiles while listening to everything from Bach to Broadway, jazz, folk, pop, comedy including music by our neighbours from Alderville First Nation and the Performer-Composer Residency.

Westben is celebrating its 25th Season of Concerts opening June 2024, featuring over 70 artists in 26 concerts, plus a fully-staged musical by Brian Finley and Ken Tizzard called the Selfish Giant. But Westben is more than just great performances; it is a true music in nature experience. Gourmet picnics on the meadow, Dare to Pair dining experiences, guided nature walks with live music on a neighbouring Nature Reserve and a chance to relax by the pond, all make Westben the place to be.

St. Olave's is a vibrant and growing church located in Toronto's Bloor West Village. We offer choral liturgies every Sunday at 10:30am. Led by Director of Music Jeremy Tingle, the SATB chamber choir comprises volunteers and professionals and sings repertoire spanning from the Renaissance to contemporary choral works, embracing the highest standards of liturgy. Evensong is a highlight of our musical programming, as well as a “Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols” (December 17, 2023 at 7:30pm) and a Good Friday service (March 29, 2024 at 10:30am). St. Olave's supports music in the community and is available for concerts and recitals. There is seating for 300+ people and a grand piano and its neo-Gothic design makes for a generous acoustic. Concerts can also be live streamed to our YouTube channel. We are located on the Bloor subway line between Runnymede and Jane but there is also on-site parking. Toronto-based Evergreen Club Contemporary Gamelan is a collective of professional musicians.

Toronto-based Evergreen Club Contemporary Gamelan (ECCG) is a collective of professional Canadian musicians. Its mission: to develop repertoire and a hybrid performance practice on a high artistic level on its own gamelan degung, an orchestra of tuned bronze percussion, flute, zither and drums indigenous to West Java, Indonesia. ECCG commissions new works and tours nationally and internationally. A key aspect of its mission is fostering intercultural musical connections through performances with Indonesian artists. Now entering its 40th season, ECCG became the first Canadian group dedicated to performing on gamelan in 1983. To date, it has commissioned over 200 works, toured internationally and is featured on over 15 commercial albums.

The group’s active repertoire includes arrangements of Indonesian songs and instrumentals, as well as boundary-pushing new works for degung and works, which include guest artists, dance, theatre and various media. Renowned Indonesian, Canadian, American and European composers such as John Cage, Lou Harrison, Linda Bouchard, Gilles Tremblay, Allison Cameron, Walter Boudreau, Linda C. Smith, Dieter Mack and Ana Sokolović have had works premièred by ECCG.

Highlights this year include the 75th anniversary of the dedication of the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in October, and our Advent and Christmas Carol Services in December.

Established in 1976 by members of the Canadian Creative Music Collective (CCMC), the Music Gallery develops, presents and promotes contemporary music in all genres.

Since the beginning, our mandate to foster innovation and experimentation in music has remained constant, and today, we continue to redefine the possibilities for concert music.

The Music Gallery presents festival programming each season, alongside a concert series that includes contributions from guest curators. We also partner on co-productions with other local organisations and artists.
