Welcome to Who's Who at TheWholeNote.com

Here at TheWholeNote.com,  we connect readers to performed music they may be interested in, in all the areas we cover and in as many ways as we can: through our Live Listings (updated weekly); through our Recording Reviews and Listening Room; through our editorial coverage (in print, on our blog, and in HalfTones, our regular e-letter); through supplemental display advertising (in print and online) relevant to the interests of our readership; and through our social media: facebook.com/thewholenote, twitter.com/thewholenote and instagram.com/the_wholenote.

Who’sWho [at] TheWholeNote.com supports all this with the following  Reader Resources:

THE BLUE PAGES directory of music makers is a  rich resource for musicians and all lovers of live music. Detailed profiles, in their own words, from a wide range of Ontario music makers, presenters and venues, reflect who they are and what they do, and their upcoming planned activity. Updated regularly as memberships come in, with the fall months (September through December) generally the busiest.

THE CANARY PAGES is The WholeNote’s guide to the extraordinary choral diversity of Southern Ontario, with profiles of vocal ensembles and choirs, focusing on such elements as personnel, repertoire, criteria to join and opportunities to perform. An invaluable resource for anyone seeking a choir or choral community to become part of. Updated regularly: with heaviest activity usually in March, April and May when choirs set their sights on the fall, in terms of musical plans and recruitment.

THE GREEN PAGES is our guide to summer music festivals and presenters.Information usually mounts over the course of the spring and early summer, as festival websites roll over from one summer to the next. Profiles are updated seasonally, as the information comes in, with most updates normally coming in between April and early June.

The SUMMER MUSIC EDUCATION section of our GREEN PAGES,  in order to accommodate programs with widely different application dates is open to directory membership year round and updated accordingly. Generally covering a wide range of summer camps, programs and and other offerings for all ages and levels of musical skill, February, March and April tend to be the busiest months for updates and membership requests.

Summer has arrived and with it, the regular concert season closes. But this is by no means the end of music for the season: rather, summer festivals are starting in abundance, providing a rich array of musical experiences, from orchestra and choir concerts to chamber and solo recitals. So welcome to the WholeNote’s 11th annual Green Pages, our guide to summer festivals throughout Ontario, across Canada and beyond, presenting music of all sorts – classical, jazz, opera, folk, world music and much more – in a plethora of unique and beautiful settings across the country! Our Green Pages Summer Music Guide comprises three sections. First, you’ll find the profiles of 39 summer festivals from far and wide joining us as Green Pages members this year. Next, you’ll find listings from our Green Pages members hosting events between June 1 and July 7. Look out for further events hosted by these festivals between July 1 and September 7 in our July/August double issue!

On The Road 2014 Coming Soon

Compiled and edited by Sara Constant

Once again, it’s that time of year where we cast our nets wide and ask Canadian musicians across our community what they’re looking forward to this summer, both as listeners and performers, and what their plans are for the season ahead.

Every year it’s the same four questions – and yet, they call forth an array of responses as varied and unique as the musicians themselves. With new updates and responses coming in every day, be sure to check out this page from time to time to read up on the summer plans of this year’s “On-the-Roaders.” Here follows a taste of what they’re up to during the coming summer months.
