May 08 University of Toronto Faculty of Music. Spotlight on Diversity. Curated by U of T Opera Diversity Coach Korin Thomas-Smith. This initiative seeks to curate and detail the diverse and rich history that traditionally marginalized groups have in Classical music, and the contributions they have made and continue to make in the operatic world. The programme theme "Connection" is expressed in three ways. "Connection" as in the way we relate to others, to our space, and to the land we occupy. "Connection" that our diverse identities have with what is seen as a static and archaic art form, and "connection" of traditionally othered people to a musical future, but also to a developed past. Pre-registration is required for this free, pre-recorded concert. Visit U of T Faculty of Music for details. ONLINE

Tafelmusik. Musik in Motion: Mozart Requiem Music Video. Alex McLeod is an artist concerned with “simulation and the transition of matter”. For our collaboration, he was drawn to Tafelmusik’s recording from Mozart’s Requiem: K. 626: III. Sequenz, 6. Lacrimosa—a piece which, in his own words, is “shrouded in mystery, re-imagining, and death—which are all elements that fuel the inspiration for my visual practice”. His undulating, mesmerizing, three-dimensional sculpture uses motifs of instruments, flowers, and linen, to communicate a transition between life and death, renewal and regrowth. Visit Tafelmusik.
