The Nathaniel Dett Chorale is a professional chamber choir based in Toronto, dedicated to the creation, performance, and preservation of Afrocentric choral music of all styles, genres, and places of origin. Founded by artistic director D. Brainerd Blyden-Taylor in 1998, the Nathaniel Dett Chorale is Canada’s premier performer of Afrocentric composers. Its mission is to build bridges of understanding, appreciation, and acceptance among communities through the medium of music.

Membership is by audition.

The 2026/27 season includes “An Indigo Christmas...Brown King | Great Joy”, a co-production with the Amadeus Choir on December 19, 2026. “Voices of the Diaspora...Nigerian Voices”, a program of sacred and secular Nigerian choral music, curated by Dr. Jude Nwankwo on February 20, 2027. The Spring concert “And Still We Sing...Dett Poets' Society: 5 Poets Breaking into Song” will feature choral arrangements of five R. Nathaniel Dett poems and five living African Canadian poets, curated by Dr. George Eliott Clarke.
