Music In the AfternoonThrough its “Music in the Afternoon” concert series, the Women’s Musical Club of Toronto (WMCT) presents chamber music concerts featuring musicians on the threshold of international recognition, as well as established artists and ensembles. Concerts are held Thursday afternoons at 1:30pm at Walter Hall, University of Toronto, Faculty of Music, Edward Johnson Building, 80 Queen’s Park. Pre-concert lectures are offered to all attendees at 12:15pm.

Our 126th season (2023/24) includes Fauré Quartett (October 5, 2023); Tesla Quartet (November 16, 2023); Dominic Desautels, clarinet, and Jean-Philippe Sylvestre, piano, with Zsófia Stefán, bassoon (March 7, 2024); Francine Kay, piano (April 4, 2024); Joyce El-Khoury, soprano, and Serouj Kradjian, piano (May 2, 2024). The group showcases powerful male voices accompanied by the rich sound of the bandura, the 55-or-more-string national instrument of Ukraine. The CBC is committed to advancing and exploring new possibilities with choral-bandura music, while honouring the instrument’s deep history. By expressing traditional music through modern, dynamic arrangements, the Canadian Bandurist Capella provides a unique listening experience that raises the profile of the bandura and Ukrainian song in the Ukrainian-Canadian community and beyond.

The mission of the Canadian Bandurist Capella is to explore the full potential and versatility of the modern bandura within a male choral ensemble, to bring together individuals who are committed to advancing choral-bandura music while respecting its rich history, and to promote and popularise the bandura within the Ukrainian-Canadian community and beyond by maintaining high standards of artistry, musicianship, and performance.

London Symphonia 2023London Symphonia is one of the finest regional, professional orchestras in Canada and a leader in London’s vibrant music and arts community. London Symphonia proudly carries on an orchestral tradition that began in 1937 as the only professional ensemble offering a full season of orchestral music in the London region. Etobicoke Centennial ChoirEtobicoke Centennial Choir is an auditioned SATB community choir that enriches its choristers and audiences through inspired performances of diverse choral repertoire, ranging from classical masterpieces to contemporary compositions and popular music.

ECC is a warm and inclusive community that welcomes new singers. We offer a challenging and supportive choral music experience, facilitated by our professional music director, collaborative accompanist and section leads.

Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings from 7:30pm to 9:45pm at Humber Valley United Church in Etobicoke. Some prior choral experience and the ability to read music is recommended.

2023/24 Season Preview:

  • On December 2, 2023, the Hannaford Street Silver Band joins ECC for Holiday Fanfare, featuring John Rutter’s luminous Gloria and other joyous music of the season.
  • On March 23, 2024, Offering will showcase Luigi Cherubini’s Requiem Mass in C minor and two choral works by Johannes Brahms, accompanied by string orchestra.
  • On June 1, 2024, ECC travels south with Musica del Sur, celebrating the colourful harmonies and vibrant rhythms of Latin American music, including wonderful Bossa Nova selections by Carlos Jobim, accompanied by Latin percussion and strings.

Jubilate Singers 2023The Jubilate Singers is an SATB community choir performing music from a variety of cultural traditions under the direction of Isabel Bernaus. The choir enjoys singing in many different languages and collaborating with other arts organisations representing the cultural diversity of Toronto. A highlight of last season was “Roots and Intersections: Music of the African, Jewish, and Muslim Diasporas”, in collaboration with Denise Williams. In 2023/24 we will present “Music about Music”, on the power of song; an all‒Latin American concert featuring Ariel Ramirez’s Misa criolla with Rodrigo Chavez and Sikuris St. Lawrence; and the Requiems of Aharon Harlap and Gabriel Fauré with orchestra and soloists.

The Jubilate Singers is an auditioned choir with extra support available for those who are not yet ready to audition. We are an inclusive and welcoming choir that works to enhance the musical skills of all its singers, and we are always looking for new members!

Elmer Iseler SingersThe Elmer Iseler Singers (EIS) are a 20-voice professional chamber choir based in Toronto and founded by the late Dr. Elmer Iseler in 1979. Directed by the acclaimed Lydia Adams, C.M., the Singers are known for tonal beauty and interpretive range, and valued for their contributions to masterclasses and workshops with schools and community choirs.

EIS enter their 45th concert season series, "A Constellation of Radiant Choral Light", beginning on October 28, 2023: "Celestial Light", with a premiere by Sid Robinovich, followed by December 8, 2023: "Messiah by G.F. Handel" with special guests the VIVA Chamber Singers and the Amadeus Choir, orchestra and soloists and April 20, 2024: "Triple Choir Splendour: Sonic Light" with the VIVA Chamber Singers and the newly formed Chroma Vocal Ensemble. Series subscriptions and individual concert tickets are available on our website, along with news about tours and guest appearances throughout the season.
