Canadian Bandurist CapellaCanadian Bandurist Capella is one of the premiere bandura ensembles in North America. The group showcases powerful male voices accompanied by the rich sound of the bandura, the 55-or-more-string national instrument of Ukraine. The CBC is committed to advancing and exploring new possibilities with choral-bandura music, while honouring the instrument’s deep history. By expressing traditional music through modern, dynamic arrangements, the Canadian Bandurist Capella provides a unique listening experience that raises the profile of the bandura and Ukrainian song in the Ukrainian-Canadian community and beyond.

The mission of the Canadian Bandurist Capella is to explore the full potential and versatility of the modern bandura within a male choral ensemble, to bring together individuals who are committed to advancing choral-bandura music while respecting its rich history, and to promote and popularise the bandura within the Ukrainian-Canadian community and beyond by maintaining high standards of artistry, musicianship, and performance.

London Symphonia 2023London Symphonia is one of the finest regional, professional orchestras in Canada and a leader in London’s vibrant music and arts community. London Symphonia proudly carries on an orchestral tradition that began in 1937 as the only professional ensemble offering a full season of orchestral music in the London region. A successful, flourishing organisation, London Symphonia is committed to artistic excellence and experience through in-person and livestreamed concerts, and deepening music education by mentorship and training for emerging artists, community outreach to deliver the healing power of music and engage new audiences, and fostering creative partnerships.

With a core of 30 players, our concerts feature talented London Symphonia musicians, spotlight international and Canadian guest artists and guest conductors, première commissioned and other new works by Canadian composers, and showcase local musical groups such as the H.B. Beal Secondary School Singers and The London Singers through creative collaborations.

Our deep commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility enables us to offer free in-person concert tickets to Newcomers and secondary and post-secondary students, and children aged 6 to12.

Etobicoke Centennial ChoirEtobicoke Centennial Choir is an auditioned SATB community choir that enriches its choristers and audiences through inspired performances of diverse choral repertoire, ranging from classical masterpieces to contemporary compositions and popular music.

ECC is a warm and inclusive community that welcomes new singers. We offer a challenging and supportive choral music experience, facilitated by our professional music director, collaborative accompanist and section leads.

Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings from 7:30pm to 9:45pm at Humber Valley United Church in Etobicoke. Some prior choral experience and the ability to read music is recommended.

2023/24 Season Preview:

  • On December 2, 2023, the Hannaford Street Silver Band joins ECC for Holiday Fanfare, featuring John Rutter’s luminous Gloria and other joyous music of the season.
  • On March 23, 2024, Offering will showcase Luigi Cherubini’s Requiem Mass in C minor and two choral works by Johannes Brahms, accompanied by string orchestra.
  • On June 1, 2024, ECC travels south with Musica del Sur, celebrating the colourful harmonies and vibrant rhythms of Latin American music, including wonderful Bossa Nova selections by Carlos Jobim, accompanied by Latin percussion and strings.

We are pleased to present our 20th annual Blue Pages, a directory of music presenters and arts services published every year in our October magazine, and maintained year-round online, under the “Who’s Who” tab at thewholenote.com. This year’s 152-profile portrait of musical life in the Greater Toronto area and Southern Ontario has two segments: section 1 reflects the wealth and diversity of music presenters and performers in our region – orchestras, choirs, opera companies, chamber ensembles, etcetera; section 2 is for individuals and organisations providing services to artists in the communities we cover, predominantly artist managers and publicists.

We’d like to thank all who have chosen to participate in this year’s Blue Pages; individuals and organisations whose support and dedication helps sustain not only The WholeNote but the music community in general. If your organisation missed being part of the October Blue Pages, we’ll be publishing a “latecomers” supplement in the November issue. And the online directory accepts new members year round.
