June is a musical month at the City of Toronto Historic Sites!

Choose from an eclectic selection of musical performances at City of Toronto Historic Sites this June. Spadina Museum’s Music in the Orchard features the eight-piece ensemble VeneElation on June 9 and the Taffanel Wind Ensemble on June 16. At Colborne Lodge, dance to Regency fiddle music on June 15 or march to fife and drum during Fort York’s exciting War of 1812 Festival Weekend. From June 20 to 22, Fort York hosts the Indigenous Arts Festival, where visitors will thrill to a rich roster of new and traditional music, dance and theatrical performances. Enjoy Bollywood-style dancing at Scarborough Museum’s “Canada Rocks!” on June 27. Montgomery’s Inn continues to host the Solfeggio Music Series and on June 29, soprano Felicia Mittica is featured.

Colours of Music features 30 performances in ten days, held noon, 2:30pm and 7:30pm, in churches throughout Barrie. See performances by choirs, quartets and pianists from across Canada and around the world: clarinetist James Campbell; violinists Brian Lewis and Mark Fewer; pianists Michael Kim, Robert Kortgaard, Peter Tiefenbach, Ben Smith and Angela Park; Cecilia String Quartet; Amara Piano Quartet; Tallis Choir; Amabile Boys and Mens Choirs; Sinfonia Toronto; Canadian Guitar Quartet; banjoist Jayme Stone; harpist Judy Loman; flutist Nora Shulman; organist Ian Sadler; and Gillian MacKay conducting the U of T Wind Ensemble! Also featured will be two new compositions by composer-in-residence Andrew Ager, commissioned by Colours of Music, and a concert version of Bizet’s Carmen.

The Elora Festival launches the 2013 season with a triumphant rendition of Verdi’s Requiem, in tribute to his 200th anniversary, with the Elora Festival Singers, the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir and guest soloists. guelph jazz festvalSeptember 4 to September 8
Guelph, ON

2013 will mark the 20th anniversary of the Guelph Jazz Festival, which runs September 4 to 8. The festival has four main components: the main stage, showcasing Canadian and international artists in a series of collaborative performances; Market Square, a free open-air event in downtown Guelph; the Colloquium, featuring free educational workshops, panel discussions and keynote lectures; and the Jazz Around Town Series, with local restaurants and pubs presenting jazz bands in their venues. To round out the celebrations, the festival’s Nuit Blanche is a late-hours celebration with some 30 jazz-tinged art performances.
