New Music Concerts’ mandate is to bring the best contemporary musical art forms from around the world and across the country to Toronto. To this end we bring internationally renowned composers to work with local musicians, in order to develop the skills of these players and to spread the word of their excellence abroad. NMC presents the best of Canadian contemporary music in an international context and provides extensive rehearsals to ensure the highest quality performances, enhanced by “Illuminating Introductions” and comprehensive program notes published in advance for our subscribers. The eight concerts of NMC’s 32nd season encompasses the works of 25 composers, the majority of whom will be in attendance: computer-based electroacoustic music from France (Nov.3); Generation 2002 with L’Ensemble contemporain de Montréal (Nov.14); a Stefan Wolpe centenary concert (Dec.1); recent music from Lithuania (Jan.10); East meets West in Occidorientales (Feb.21); a 90th birthday tribute to Canadian patriarch John Weinzweig with his colleagues Harry Freedman and John Beckwith (Mar.23); a visit from George Crumb (Apr.13); and a concert of commissioned works, A Sacred Place (May 25).
