Founded in 1968 by Ruby Mercer and Lloyd Bradshaw, The Canadian Children’s Opera Chorus is unique in Canada as the only permanent children’s opera chorus to develop and produce new operas for children. The CCOC consists of 78 boys and girls aged 10 to 16 under the leadership of Artistic Director Ann Cooper Gay. Ninety younger children participate in three apprentice choruses, conducted by Lynn Janes and Teri Dunn.

Highlights of the 33rd season include performances of Otello with the Canadian Opera Company; an appearance at the first Opera Canada Awards; The Last Duel world premiere with the Opera Division of the U of T; Winter Concerts at the Jane Mallett Theatre, and performances of The Dream with The National Ballet of Canada.

The most exciting event of the year will take place in May 2001. Following 7 performances of John Greer’s The Snow Queen at the du Maurier Theatre, the opera will have its European premiere as the CCOC tours Germany and the Netherlands!

The CCOC has released 3 CD’s: Creatures Great & Small (1999) Dandelion Parachutes (1993) and Sir Christëmas (1989).
