Modest Greatness

8:00 pm, Friday, March 22, 2024

Guest Artist: Cameron Crozman, Cello

Join the Etobicoke Philharmonic on Friday, March 22, 2024 at Martingrove Collegiate Institute - 50 Winterton Drive, Etobicoke (map) - for Modest Greatness.

Despite his virtuosity and CBC Music naming him “Canada’s next big cello star”, Cameron Crozman is not above performing in breweries, wineries, public markets and, now, an Etobicoke school auditorium. While he loves exploring lesser known works, Cameron will perform Dvorak’s emotional, expressive cello concerto.

Dvorak himself came from humble beginnings, reportedly playing as an 'extra' viola when he couldn't afford concert tickets. His mentors included Brahms, whose gentle first foray into orchestral writing was a set of variations based on a simple theme by Haydn.

The program also features a piece specifically written to include string players of beginner, not just advanced, ability: Prairie Jubilee, by local composer Elizabeth Raum.
