Dr. Rea Beaumont is a concert pianist, composer, educator, researcher, and arts leader.  She is known for her powerful performances, critically acclaimed recordings, and compositions that are reviewed as having "compositional prowess” (The WholeNote, Toronto).  Beaumont is the recipient of the SOCAN Foundation/MusCan Award of Excellence for the Advancement of Research in Canadian Music, a national award. 

Beaumont's six albums feature traditional repertoire and new music that often highlights important global social issues, including climate change. She has premiered works by R. Murray Schafer, John Weinzweig, Barbara Pentland, Jean Coulthard, Jordan Pal (commission), Oskar Morawetz, Chan Ka Nin (CBC commission), and many more. 

An arts leader and music industry expert, Beaumont has spearheaded DEI, benevolent fund, and advocacy initiatives for a more inclusive arts sector. She has also served on negotiating committees for media agreements. Her volunteer experience includes fundraising concerts for the foodbank, AIDS Foundation, and women composers. 

Beaumont's publications include the book Composer Barbara Pentland: The Music and the Message that was a finalist for an international award, in addition to lectures, websites, blogs, articles, course design, papers, reviews, and podcasts. Her research has been presented at institutions in North America, South America, and Europe. Current research projects include examining the future of music in this digital age while another is exploring new aspects of Canadian music. 

Beaumont holds multiple degrees and certificates, having trained at the University of British Columbia, University of Toronto, Osgoode Hall Law School, Royal Conservatory of Music, Eastman School of Music, and The Banff Centre for the Arts.  

Formerly faculty at the University of British Columbia and the Royal Conservatory of Music, Dr. Beaumont is on faculty at the University of Toronto, a composer-in-residence, and a member of the Canadian Conference of Musicians Executive Board.
