Thank you for your interest in joining the Amadeus Choir! We are delighted that you’ve chosen to audition to become a member of this wonderful community. We are a semi-professional choir who performs a wide variety of repertoire including brand new commissions, cross-cultural collaborations, gems of the standard choral repertoire in many languages, interdisciplinary and digital collaborations, and large scale choral-orchestral works. As enter our 50th anniversary season, it’s an exciting time to be joining the choir!

Rehearsals take place on Tuesday nights from 7:30-10:00pm at Jubilee United Church. Four main concerts, one fundraising event, and numerous other educational or outreach programs are scheduled throughout the year.

A typical Amadeus Choir member has the following attributes:
- A love of singing
- An eagerness to learn and try new things
- Experience singing in other choirs, singing as a soloist, or playing an instrument
- The ability to read music (It is not necessary to sight-read perfectly the first time, but a strong understanding of music notation and ear training is essential.)
- Good listening skills and the ability to adjust their own voice to the singers around them
- A commitment to attending all rehearsals and performances

Auditions will consist of:
- A short interview about your choral and vocal experience
- Sight-singing
- Vocalizing and range exercises
- A performance of a short song or excerpt (your choice). This can be a choral part from a piece you have sung or a solo song. An accompanist will be provided.

About us:

The Amadeus Choir of Greater Toronto is celebrating 50 years of enlivening the Toronto arts landscape through energetic performances, unexpected programming and artistic collaborations that redefine the boundaries of traditional choral music. As we reflect on our five decades of artistic excellence, we recognize that it has only been made possible through the dedication of our community. Starting with our choir members, volunteers, and staff, and rippling out to our audiences, donors, sponsors and the public, The Amadeus Choir has become a vital thread of connection in the cultural tapestry of Greater Toronto and beyond.

Led by Artistic Director Kathleen Allan, the Choir champions the best of choral music and premieres works of Canadian and international composers through a self-produced Toronto concert series, guest performances, and special events. The Amadeus Choir regularly commissions work from high-profile and emerging Canadian composers and recently established the Choral Creation Lab, a residency for composers and poets to co-create original works.

We are proud of our commitment to educate the next generation of choral musicians by providing workshops for conductors, composers, and students. In 2019, we established the Emerging Canadian Voices ensemble of eight young professional singers who take on leadership positions within the choir and receive career mentorship.

Throughout our 50-year history, the Amadeus Choir has received numerous awards and has become well-known across Toronto and beyond through tours, festivals, recordings, radio broadcasts, and collaborations with professional performing arts organizations.
