(1998/99 profile)
Toronto Operetta Theatre's 1998/99 season celebrates the melodious voice of operetta from Vienna, London, Madrid and the lands along the Danube. Founded in 1985 by Artistic Director Guillermo Silva-Marin, the Toronto Operetta Theatre is a vibrant company with a mandate to produce classical operetta featuring professional Canadian artists of exceptional talent. Distinguished singers such as Linda Maguire, Mark DuBois, Rosemarie Landry, and Michael Burgess have appeared with the TOT along with emerging stars such as Nathalie Paulin, Gisele Fredette and Eric Shaw. This season Strauss' DIE FLEDERMAUS runs from December 26, 1998 to January 5, 1999 with Gilbert & Sullivan's immortal H.M.S. PINAFORE scheduled for April 22 through May 1, 1999. Concerts devoted to music inspired by the Danube (October 17 & 18, 1998) and the Zarzuelas of Spain (February 13 & 14, 1999) complete the season. Of special note is TOT's Annual New Year's Eve Dinner and Dance, a "Silvester Ball" in the Viennese tradition. Performances take place at the Jane Mallett Theatre. |
