Festival Wind Orchestra

2007-2008 MEMBER PROFILES

Founded in 1996, the Festival Wind Orchestra rehearses weekly and performs concerts to further its musicianship and educate the public. Its 11th season includes classical and contemporary selections of varying difficulty, to challenge and inspire musicians from intermediate to advanced levels including Huckleberry Finn Suite, The Nutcracker Suite, Candide Overture, España, and vocal selections by George Gershwin. This year we will feature a young Canadian soprano at our Christmas and June concerts.

The ensemble seeks to maintain its high-quality performance level and help musicians hone their skills. The ensemble will play at local retirement homes and perform three public concerts in December 2007, April 2008 and June 2008.

Musical director Gennady Gefter is an accomplished flautist and conductor currently teaching music at Earl Haig Secondary School and leads the adult flute choir, Flautandia. His talent and dedication have created this high-calibre community wind orchestra. There’s a feeling of family in this ensemble. New members are always welcome.

Rehearsals are Tuesdays, 7:30–9:45pm at Earl Haig Secondary School (Yonge and Sheppard area).
