2003-2004 Profile

Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, led by Music Director Jeanne Lamon, is one of the world’s leading period performance ensembles. The Tafelmusik Chamber Choir, directed by Ivars Taurins, was formed in 1981 to complement the orchestra. In 2003/2004, Tafelmusik celebrates its 25th anniversary season.

Highlights of the season include Beethoven’s Symphonies Nos. 5 and 6, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks, Mozart’s Mass in C Minor, and a special anniversary concert: A Silver Celebration - The Best of the Baroque. 

Guest artists include the luminous Canadian soprano Isabel Bayrakdarian in a programme of Cleopatra arias; world-renowned cellist Anner Bylsma; Canadian countertenor Matthew White; English conductors Richard Egarr and Andrew Parrott; and comic genius Mary Lou Fallis in a special fundraising performance of The Mrs. Bach Show.

Finally, no season would be complete without Handel’s Messiah at Trinity-St. Paul’s followed by the Sing-Along Messiah at Massey Hall. 

Tafelmusik is thrilled to continue its 3-concert series at the George Weston Recital Hall, as well as the 10-concert series at Trinity-St. Paul’s Centre.
