Tapestry New Opera Works, under the leadership of Wayne Strongman and Claire Hopkinson, is dedicated to the development and production of original works of Canadian opera and music theatre. Since 1995, Tapestry’s annual Composer-Librettist Laboratory has introduced composers and writers to the art of creative collaboration. Several successful teams had their beginnings in the “Lib-Lab”, including Chan Ka Nin and Mark Brownell, creators of Iron Road. On October 2, at 8:00 pm, Tapestry launches
our new season with Opera Briefs II. Opera Briefs II will showcase the
exciting work of fledgling opera creators, who will talk about their experience
of working with creative partners under 24-hour deadlines. The event will
be held on the site of Tapestry’s proposed new home in the Distillery District.
On October 27, Tapestry welcomes home Louise Pitre, Broadway star of Mamma
Mia!, to help celebrate our 23rd Anniversary at Jamie Kennedy at the ROM.
In April 2003, Tapestry presents the world premiere of Facing South by
Linda C. Smith and Don Hannah, as part of World Stage Festival. For information:
