Some of Canada’s leading early music specialists came together to form the Toronto Consort in 1972.  The ensemble is recognized for its excellence in the performance of music of the Middle Ages and Renaissance.  Its members include both singers and instrumentalists (lute, recorder, flute, early keyboards and percussion).

For the 2001/02 season, the Toronto Consort offers a subscription series of five concerts: “Murderers and Milkmaids” on Nov. 9 & 10, an evening of English renaissance music including rollicking ballads, lutesongs, madrigals and country dances with guest fiddler David Greenberg; “Welcome My Lord Sir Christemas,” a medieval Yuletide offering featuring the music of Hildegard of Bingen on Dec. 14 & 15; “Lands of Ice and Fire,” an evening of Norse tales and music with host Peter Tiefenbach on Feb. 1 & 2, 2002; The Canadian debut of The Dufay Collective, the British medieval ensemble, on March 1; and the season closes on April 5 & 6 with a splendid Monteverdi opera, The Return of Ulysses, featuring Laura Pudwell and Paul Agnew.
