I FURIOSI Baroque Ensemble is comprised of Canada’s finest young Baroque performers. Having studied at some of the most renowned musical institutions across North America and Europe, these five daring musicians bring their skill and expertise to this edgy new voice in the Early Music World. Founded in 1997, I FURIOSI began as an ever-changing configuration of instrumentalists and vocalists. In 1999, the group settled into its current formation of string quartet and soprano, allowing for the performance of a wide range of repertoire. In its own Toronto concert series, the ensemble renews the practice of the Baroque era invoking the “bizarre and unnatural” aesthetic both cherished and despised in its time. Intelligent and inspired programming in addition to a captivating performance style has garnered this group a reputation as a revolutionary force in the Canadian music scene. Stylish in both sound and attire, I FURIOSI Baroque Ensemble performs instrumental and vocal music from Medieval chant to the apex of the High Baroque. In- depth research coupled with striking invention culminate in the powerful interpretation of the languages and music. |
